Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 14, 2025
1. Overview & Scope
Study Share LLC ("Study Share," "we," or "our") is a United States based company that helps students prepare for the SAT, PSAT, ACT, and classroom exams with secure resource sharing, AI explanations, and optional voice guidance.
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and share personal data when you visit studyshare.app, any related sub-domains, our mobile-optimized experiences, support channels, or the voice-powered chat summary inside the Study Share AI panel.
By using our products you agree to the practices described here and in our Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please discontinue use or contact us so we can address your concerns.
2. Data We Collect
We collect information that you provide directly, information that is generated when you interact with the platform, and limited information from trusted service providers. This includes:
- Account & identity details. Email address, handle, passwordless authentication tokens, profile photo, school affiliation, plan status, and security events related to sign-ins or multi-factor approvals.
- Educational contributions. Files you upload, metadata about classes or teachers, AI-generated practice questions derived from those files, points, badges, comments, and any flags you submit.
- Voice and interaction data. Speech snippets that are converted to text, the resulting chat summary transcripts (stored as timestamped user and assistant turns), microphone preferences, and feature toggles (for example, when you expand the voice panel).
- Usage & diagnostics. Device type, operating system, browser, approximate location derived from IP address, error logs, performance metrics, and how you navigate pages or tools such as the calculator, voice recorder, or upload wizard.
- Payments & support. Billing name, masked card details, transaction status from our payment service provider, and the content of support tickets, surveys, and interviews you choose to join.
We also create aggregated or de-identified statistics—such as average practice time or top-performing study streaks—to improve the product without identifying individual users.
3. How We Use Personal Data
Study Share LLC processes data to deliver a safe, high-quality academic experience:
- Provide core services. Authenticate sessions, render study materials, power the AI hint engine, and keep your chat summary synchronized across devices.
- Personalize learning. Recommend relevant resources, highlight prior attempts, and tailor the interface (for example, remembering which tab you last opened).
- Enable communications. Send service emails, push reminders, and respond to help-center requests.
- Operate voice mode. Convert speech to text, generate text-to-speech responses, and present transcripts in the chat summary without storing audio.
- Protect the community. Detect spam, academic misconduct, harassment, or misuse of AI features using automated signals and limited human review.
- Improve and research. Analyze aggregated usage data to debug issues, measure performance, and test new features.
- Meet legal requirements. Maintain tax evidence, honor DMCA notices, and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
4. Lawful Bases & Eligibility
Depending on your region, Study Share LLC relies on the following lawful bases for processing personal data:
- Contract. We process data to provide the services you request, such as delivering practice tests, storing chat summaries, or managing subscriptions.
- Legitimate interests. We analyze product usage, safeguard the platform, and prevent abuse when doing so does not override your rights.
- Consent. We rely on your consent for optional actions such as joining waitlists, enabling microphone access, receiving marketing updates, or participating in research interviews. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligations. We may retain data when required by tax, consumer protection, intellectual property, or safety laws.
The platform is intended for individuals who are at least 13 years old. Students under 18 should obtain parental or guardian permission before purchasing premium plans. If we learn that someone under 13 has created an account, we will delete it and associated data.
5. Voice Mode & Chat Summary
Voice mode is optional and designed to keep your focus on the questions without storing unnecessary audio:
- Speech is captured on your device, encrypted in transit, and transcribed by our AI speech service provider. We retain only the text that is needed to respond.
- Each transcript is saved in your chat summary as timestamped user and assistant turns so you can review past explanations. The transcript references the question and module but not the underlying audio.
- Audio is processed transiently and is not stored or replayable by default. Text-to-speech responses are generated on demand and discarded after delivery.
- Voice mode currently supports English. Filler words (for example, “um,” “uh,” “like”) and long pauses are stripped out to keep the chat summary concise.
- Chat summary transcripts are retained for up to 30 days (or until you clear them inside the panel) so you can export evidence of how you studied.
- You can clear the chat summary for any test, turn off voice mode in real time, or email team@studyshare.app to request early deletion of transcripts.
7. Service Providers & Sharing
We do not sell personal data. We only share it with service providers who help us operate the platform and who agree to strict contractual safeguards:
- Database & authentication provider that securely stores user profiles, session tokens, and content metadata.
- Cloud hosting provider that delivers our web application, API, and static assets.
- AI and speech service provider that powers study-specific hints, speech-to-text processing, and text-to-speech playback.
- Analytics provider that aggregates usage, performance, and crash data.
- Payment and billing provider that processes cards, subscriptions, and refunds.
- Customer communications provider that routes emails, push notifications, and help-center messages.
We may also disclose data when required by law, when responding to DMCA notices, when investigating abuse, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or financing. In those cases, recipients must honor the commitments in this policy.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
Study Share LLC keeps personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes outlined in this notice:
- Account details are stored while your account is active and for up to three years after inactivity so you can reactivate quickly.
- Uploaded materials, derived practice questions, and scoring records remain until you delete them or request removal, after which they are purged from active systems within 60 days and backups within 90 days.
- Chat summary transcripts and voice diagnostics are retained for up to 30 days unless you clear them sooner.
- Support tickets, moderation decisions, and abuse investigations are stored for up to 24 months to ensure consistent enforcement.
- Payment and tax records are retained for at least seven years to satisfy financial and audit obligations.
- DMCA reports and serious policy violations may be kept for up to five years to prevent repeat abuse.
You may delete individual resources in-app or email team@studyshare.app to delete your entire account. We respond to verified requests within 30 days unless the data must be kept for legal reasons.
9. International Transfers & Security
Study Share LLC operates from the United States. When you access the platform from another country, your information will be transferred to the U.S., where it is protected by the safeguards described below and by data-processing agreements with our service providers.
- Data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest using industry-standard algorithms.
- Infrastructure runs inside segmented virtual private clouds with strict firewall rules and zero-trust access.
- Access to production systems follows least-privilege principles, multi-factor authentication, and detailed logging.
- Automated monitoring helps us detect suspicious uploads, brute-force attempts, and voice misuse in real time.
- Employees complete annual security and privacy training, and we regularly run penetration tests and tabletop exercises.
- We maintain an incident-response plan that includes user notification, remediation, and cooperation with regulators when required.
If we ever need to transfer data to another country, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or comparable safeguards to keep it protected.
10. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access and download a copy of your data.
- Correct or update inaccurate information.
- Delete your account and associated content.
- Restrict or object to certain processing (for example, disable voice mode).
- Withdraw consent for marketing emails or microphone access.
- Opt out of analytics or advertising cookies (where available).

You can exercise many of these rights through your profile settings. For anything else, email team@studyshare.app with proof of account ownership. We respond within 30 days and will let you know if we need more time.

12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect new features, legal requirements, or service provider changes. When we make material updates, we will update the “Last updated” date, notify signed-in users, or provide in-product notices when required. Your continued use of Study Share after a change goes into effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
