How is the ACT scored?
Each section (English, Math, Reading, Science) is scaled 1–36. Composite is the rounded average of included sections.
Do wrong answers reduce my score?
No. There is no penalty for wrong answers. Only the number correct matters.
Does Science affect my Composite?
By default this calculator excludes Science from Composite (new ACT guidance). Toggle "Include in composite" to use legacy behavior.
How to read your estimate
- 34–36: Keep timing tight; miss no more than 1–2 per section.
- 28–33: Focus on question types you miss twice; add timed mini-sets.
- 20–27: Prioritize pacing rules (e.g., 9 minutes per Reading passage).
- Below 20: Drill fundamentals and memorize the highest-yield grammar + math rules.
